Takako Chigusa, Girl #13 - Battle Royale; Batoru rowaiaru (2000)
Based on a novel by Koushun Takami. In a world of Thug like teenagers, the Japanese government institutes "Battle Royale" 'Millennium Educational Reform Act 'where a class of children, 9th grade in this case, are taken to a secluded island without their knowledge and are forced to kill each other off so that only one survives. This is supposed to happen on a regular basis but the time frame is not revealed. DVD
Chiaki plays a tough girl named Chigusa who in her last scene, after being filled full of bullet holes by another girl with a gun, is found and rejected by her boyfriend.
One
thinks of "Lord of the Flies" when one sees this film but it's much more
brutal. Not for the faint of heart. 4 out of 4 stars.
